On the Multitude of the Condemned

The broad and the narrow way

There are undoubtedly more adult Catholics who are accursed than who are redeemed. Our Lord Himself assures us that'' narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!'' (Matthew 7:13-14). According to Suarez, The most common sentiment among Christians is that there are more damned than predestined souls.

Examining the renowned sermon of Saint Leonardo of Porto-Maurizio, we attempt to determine the number of the damned through relative figures.

This table presents various estimates of the ratio between those who attain eternal salvation and those who go down into the pit:

• In the first scenario, Saint Jerome suggests that only 0,001% are worthy of mercy, while the remaining 99.999% cannot attain salvation.

• The second quote, credited to Saint Vincent Ferrer, indicates a slightly higher ratio, with 0.015% saved and 99.984% condemned.

• In the last excerpt from an anonymous Franciscan friar, only 0.005% of Catholics will find salvation, while 99.995% will be eternally doomed.

Based on the average of these quotes,  99.993% of Catholics will be sent to hell, and only 0.007% will enjoy the Beatific Vision.
