From Loyalty to Dissent: Mater Populi Fidelis and the New Resistance

The publication of the declaration Mater Populi Fideli by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has produced a strange phenomenon. Conservative Catholics and apologists who, until recently, were committed to defending the living Magisterium of the synodal Church have now reached their limit. They know that the new doctrine put forward by Cardinal Tucho has crossed a line: by denying the title of Co-redemptrix to the Blessed Virgin, the document departs from the universal and ordinary Magisterium, rendering it unsafe and spiritually harmful to follow. For this reason, they now resist the very authority they once sought to defend. Ironically, these are the same individuals who spent years attacking traditionalists for doing exactly what they are now bound to do.

Christian ‘We are so back’ Wagner

Unable to reconcile the staggering contradiction between previous teachings and the new one, the former popesplainer reached a breaking point. He now denounces the serious errors of denying titles such as Co-Redemptrix, as this would necessarily imply falsehood. For these reasons, he says, no Catholic should assent to the document.

Christian B. Wagner (@WalmartThomist), ‘There is a serious error that is not of the prudential order. The document clearly claims that titles like ''Co-Redemptrix'' necessarily imply something that is false (i.e., a non-subordinate role in salvation) as distinct from titles like Mediatrix which does not have the same implication (and whose error only comes incidentally),' Twitter, 4 November , 2025, 3:25 p.m., https://x.com/WalmartThomist/status/1985730003393233236

Christian B. Wagner (@WalmartThomist), 'Sure, it is a relatively minor error (i.e., about a definition of a title), but it still an error nonetheless and no Catholic should assent to this,' Twitter, November , 2025, 3:25 p.m., https://x.com/WalmartThomist/status/1985730005482254776

'Father' Paolo D'Angona   - diocesan priest

This conservative priest used to say that papal teachings are not mere opinions: they are authoritative and must be received with docility by the faithful.
P. D'Angona, Sacerdos Romano-Catholicus (@RomanoSace57080), 'For some people, the Vicar of Christ has obviously been reduced to just another discussant whose magisterial teachings can be freely debated. Such a mindset is by no means Catholic. These people are deeply imbued with leftist thinking—and often seem to be not even aware of it.,' Twitter, 9 October , 2025, 7:54 p.m., https://x.com/RomanoSace57080/status/1976375768587567493
Now, however, he does precisely the opposite: he not only publicly dissents from the latest magisterial document, but also teaches others to do the same, as you can see here:
P. D'Angona, Sacerdos Romano-Catholicus (@RomanoSace57080), 'With religious submission of intellect and will, I accept the teaching of the authentic Magisterium of Mary as Coredemptrix, as presented repeatedly by the Papal Magisterium and by an Ecumenical Council. I reject the absurdity that this must be seen differently in 18 minutes.' Twitter, 9 October , 2025,  4:54 p.m., https://x.com/RomanoSace57080/status/1985658950943961271

This attitude is anything but Catholic. If Leo XIV is a true pope, one cannot cling to old directives while rejecting the new ones:
'It is to give proof of a submission which is far from sincere to set up some kind of opposition between one Pontiff and another. Those who, faced with two differing directives, reject the present one to hold to the past, are not giving proof of obedience to the authority which has the right and duty to guide them; and in some ways they resemble those who, on receiving a condemnation, would wish to appeal to a future council, or to a Pope who is better informed.' (Leo XIII, Epistola Tua)

Domino Fidelis -Novus Ordo Apologist

Before the publication of MPF, this French apologist used to call for blind obedience to the Novus Ordo hierarchy.
Domino Fidelis (@DominoFide), 'But you can't examine what the government says, you only have to follow it, and it cannot be wrong. But your position imply to believe that the government was wrong, and that it was necessary to separate from him...,' Twitter, 25 May , 2023, 5:23 p.m., https://x.com/DominoFide/status/1661785004760870917
Domino Fidelis (@DominoFide), 'Our duty isn't to examine things by ourselves only, but rather to obey the Church Hierarchy, and thus to recognize the Popes it recognizes.' Twitter, 22 February, 2025, 4:37 p.m., https://x.com/DominoFide/status/1893339356410118510
But he has changed his tone. Now, the government can actually be wrong, and when the hierarchy errs, Catholics are allowed to examine matters for themselves and reject magisterial errors. That is essentially the recognise and resist position espoused by the SSPX and others.
Domino Fidelis (@DominoFide), 'The document was not even promulgated in forma specifica by the Pope, so it does not have the same force as a Magisterial document issued by the Roman Pontiff. Given that several Popes gave this title to the Blessed Virgin, it is appropriate to give her this title.' Twitter, 4 November , 2025, 11:34 a.m., https://x.com/DominoFide/status/1985717263563960641

The Great Apostasy continues at a rapid pace. As a consequence of the latest fiasco, loyal sons of the Novus Ordo sect have reached their limits. Those who once supported Fiducia Supplicans and Amoris Laetitia are now publicly opposing the erroneous doctrinal innovations of their modernist sect. Unfortunately, their selective resistance is neither theologically sound nor spiritually safe. Their position is not only schismatic, as they refuse to submit to the Apostolic See, but also incoherent and pernicious, as they have chosen to dissent from one error while accepting the entire Vatican II revolution as legitimate. They truly are blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel (Matthew 23:24).
